Filling the Prescription to Improve Pediatric Healthcare 

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is continuing its long history as a pioneer in pediatrics. Founded in 1855 as the nation's first hospital for children, CHOP recently updated its web site with a suite of BroadVision e-business applications. BroadVision applications and tools have helped create several initiatives that improve service for patients and physicians throughout the hospital's extensive healthcare network.

These initiatives include a consumer portal that helps users learn about pediatric diseases and conditions, health and safety topics and the healthcare network's related programs and services. Patients using the portal can readily locate physicians and view physician profiles, request general pediatric or specialty appointments and ask billing questions. BroadVision software also helped create a referring physician portal so doctors can obtain information on children they've referred anywhere within the hospital's network of more than 30 facilities. Appointment and admission history, patient status, lab results and discharge notes can all be accessed within a password-protected, secure "dashboard."

Children's Hospital also uses BroadVision's content management tools to streamline editing, updating and publishing many health-related articles and reports. Future plans include allowing clinical departments to maintain content such as staff listings, hours of operation and news and event information on their departments' web pages.
