The Question has Finally been Answered. Why Do People Use Twitter?

The growth of the social networking tool Twitter is unbelievable; I personally have written numerous blogs about the software and its remarkable attraction throughout the past few months. To be honest, I seem to find the concept of the software to be more interesting than its growth. After much research, it benefits businesses in regards to promoting thier image and updates to an enormous market for free; but as for individuals, I never understood its purpose. Reading how my friends are in line grabbing a cup of coffee or making eggs for breakfast never seemed appealing to me. Apparently, I am in the minority, as it seems that everyone enjoys divulging their everyday activities to the general public through Twitter (by the way, follow me BVSNChris). I do have an account for the marketing purposes that I just mentioned, but I will forever remain shocked on why individuals use twitter. Well recently results from the “Consumer Internet Barometer” by TSN and the Conference Board have revealed the reasons behind peoples’ constant usage of this social networking phenomenon.

The results were provided from emarketer.com. and show the age group of Twitter users along with their reason for usage. The second chart shows who they interact with when they log into this social networking software.

Who People Interact With on Twitter

And there is the answer, keeping in touch with friends is the number one reason for American's obsession with Twitter. Also, no surprise, friends are who people interact with the most when using Twitter.

These results that have been presented need to be observed and studied as it appears that Twitter is something that does not seem to go away. As a business, it is one of the many social media marketing tactics that seem to grow at an alarming rate. Any news about social networks like Twitter need to be looked and adapted by businesses, otherwise, they will be left in the dust, as the early adapters will fly by.
